Maryam Rajavi meets renowned Greek diva Maria Farantouri |

NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi met Maria Farantouri, the renowned
Greek diva, who rose to fame for her opposition to the colonels' junta,
and her accompanying delegation in Ouver-Sur-Oise on Saturday, February
26.
Ms. Farantouri works closely with Mikis Theodorakis, the renowned
composer and an icon of Greek resistance during the military
dictatorship in Greece. She told the President-elect of the Iranian
Resistance, "Iranian people's resistance reminds us of our own people's
struggle against military rule. However, the Iranian resistance is
facing challenges under much more difficult circumstances.
Ms. Farantouri admiring the women's role in Iranian resistance said, "
I am deeply delighted to have known such resistance and I will be
defending you everywhere".
The late French president Francois Mitterrand once said of Maria Farantouri, "For me Maria is Greece."

The Guardian once wrote about Maria, "Her magnificent voice is a gift from the gods of Olymp."
With her concerts across the globe, Maria has become a world celebrity.
Maria was born in 1947. When she was 16, her genius was discovered by
Theodorakis. In 1967, after the military coup, Maria was forced to
exile. While In exile, by performing hundreds of concerts, she became a
symbol of resistance and democracy for Greece.
"The Greek people's Resistance and the invaluable role of prominent
artists like Mikis Theodorakis and you have always been held in great
esteem by our movement," Mrs. Rajavi told the Greek diva.
Maria Farantouri announced her support for the Iranian resistance in a
conference titled, "United against Fundamentalism, for Equality", on
Friday, February 25. |
