Tuesday, 07 November 2006

TV2 (Norway), 6.30 PM, November 4 – Iran’s ambassador to Norway made some threats regarding the visit next week by Maryam Rajavi, leader of the Iranian opposition. The Norwegian Foreign Ministry is going to follow up this matter but does not give any importance to the threats.

Maryam Rajavi, champion of the Iranian Resistance and leader of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, will come to Norway next Tuesday for meetings at the Parliament. Her supporters are deeply concerned about the threats by the regime’s ambassador.

Parviz Khazaï, representative of the National Council of the Resistance of Iran in Nordic countries: “Norway must close down Iran’s embassy which is a spying centre. It is highly deplorable that a diplomatic official dares to make such threats.”

Yesterday, at the Norwegian Parliament, the ambassador of Iran made some threats at a meeting with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Parliamentary Committee, Mr Olav Akselsen.

According to the Norwegian Foreign Ministry, this is unacceptable.

The Undersecretary of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs Raymond Johansen said: “Firstly, no embassy has the right to interfere in the meetings planned by the Parliament or any other body. This is unacceptable.”

“Threats coming from embassies are not unknown phenomena for the ministry and they would lead to nothing.”

Raymond Johansen: “That this meeting might have serious consequences on the relations between Norway and Iran is not very important. We do not have any particularly cordial relations, except official diplomatic relations with Iran. They have an ambassador here and we have one there.”
