Condolence Message on the Passing of the Norwegian People’s Great Hero
Friday, 11 May 2012 00:00

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, while voicing respect and admiration for Gunnar Sonsteby, expressed her sympathies and condolences to the people of Norway and especially the family of the Norwegian resistance’s great hero on the occasion of his passing.
In her message, Mrs. Rajavi said: Gunar Sonsteby was the awakened conscience of the Norwegian people, a proud symbol for that country and Europe’s popular resistance, and was someone who left a legacy of flames of awareness for future generations.

Mr. Sonsteby’s support for the residents of Camp Ashraf, whose perseverance and determination he described as a living testament to a heroic resistance, will remain unforgettable.
His brilliant remarks are symbolic torches on the path of all freedom-loving activists, when he said: In order to achieve democracy and freedom, one must fight, one must always and forever fight. I know how those who fight for freedom get labeled as “terrorists.” The German fascists, too, labeled myself and my friends as terrorists and demanded our arrest and execution.”

Mrs. Rajavi reminded that through their struggle and perseverance, eminent personalities like Gunnar Sonsteby have kept alive the flames of certain values that belong to all humanity and all those people who rise up and resist against fascism and suppression of freedom and human rights, people who just like the residents of Ashraf are never prepared to kneel down in front of dictators.
