Friday, 17 September 2004 01:00
Lord Alton expressed his grave concern at the mullahs' continuing efforts to develop nuclear weapons. He said it seemed as if Western governments were finally coming to realize the destructive consequences of the policy of appeasement. He said it was now time to review the absurd decision to include the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran in the terrorism list and that the PMOI must be removed from the list. Lord Alton of Liverpool met and held talks with Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the Iranian Resistance's President-elect, at Auvers-sur-Oise, on Thursday, September 16. The latest developments in Iran and the region were discussed in the meeting.

The British peer also expressed his repugnance at the continuing grave violation of human rights in Iran, particularly the recent hanging of a 16-year-old girl in the northern town of Neka, where the religious judge himself put the rope around the victim's neck.

Lord Alton underlined his continuing support for efforts by Mrs. Rajavi to establish democracy and freedom in Iran.

The Resistance's President-elect thanked Lord Alton for his staunch support of the Iranian Resistance against the ruling religious tyranny in Iran and stressed the firm determination of the Resistance to establish freedom and democracy in Iran.

Mrs. Rajavi added that the Iranian people and the freedom-fighters of Iran draw encouragement from the courageous position of a majority of members of the British parliament, who have been condemning the mullahs' crimes and supporting the Iranian people's right to fight for democracy for years, despite the official government policy of appeasing the mullahs.

Ms. Dowlat Nowrouzi, the NCRI's representative in the UK, was present in the meeting.
