Maryam Rajavi: The Freedom of the Iranian People Is Deeply Connected to Global Peace

On Wednesday, May 27, a high-level conference was convened featuring members of the Parliament of Canada. The session was co-chaired by the Hon. Judy Sgro, Member of Parliament, Chair of the Standing Committee on International Trade, and former Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, alongside Michael Cooper, Member of Parliament.
The event brought together a distinguished panel of Canadian and American dignitaries and experts, who delivered keynote addresses. Notable speakers included:
Ambassador Robert Joseph, former U.S. Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security;
The Hon. Tony Clement, former Canadian Minister of Health, Minister of Industry, and President of the Treasury Board;
Kyle Matthews, Executive Director of the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies (MIGS).

The deliberations centered on several critical geopolitical questions:

• Will the clerical regime ever abandon its nuclear ambitions and abide by an agreement?
• What viable alternative possesses the capability to overthrow the ruling regime?
• The current state of human rights and the escalating wave of executions in Iran.
The conference commenced with a video message from Maryam Rajavi addressed to the participants.
In her message, Maryam Rajavi underscored:

Honorable Members, Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is a great pleasure to address this important meeting at such a crucial time. The major developments of the past year have proven important facts.
First, freeing the world from the threat of religious fascism, which is the main source of insecurity, terrorism, and war, is a single, shared goal.
Second, this regime has no intention of changing its behavior or policies. It lacks both the capacity and the fundamental nature to do so. Therefore, this threat has only one answer: overthrow by the Iranian people and their organized resistance.

The Main Force for Change in Iran

Over the past four decades, those who put their short-term political or commercial interests above all else ignored the unchanging nature of the regime.
They witnessed the brutal violation of human rights in Iran but overlooked it. They showed tolerance toward the regime’s nuclear weapons program and weapons of mass destruction, even though the National Council of Resistance of Iran had exposed different aspects of this secret program in more than 130 conferences and statements.

They ignored the key solution to the Iranian question, which is the resistance movement, and worse, they blocked its path at critical moments. The current big challenge is rooted in this sad history. But beyond this, we must learn a lesson for the future.
The biggest lesson is that working with dictatorships may bring short-term benefits today, but it leads to a disaster tomorrow. In addition, a policy that ignores the people and the resistance of Iran has deprived the world of the main force for change in Iran.
Look at the situation in Iran. Even though there is a major foreign war happening, the main battle for the rulers is against the Iranian people.
This past January, they crushed the Iranian uprising by killing thousands of young people and teenagers. Now, they live night and day in the nightmare of the next uprising.

Clerical Regime at Impasse vis-à-vis the People’s Uprising

Since the start of the war, they have been executing political prisoners one after another. This includes eight members of the People’s Mojahedin, who were part of the Resistance Units. They have also executed 20 young people for taking part in the uprising or fighting against the Revolutionary Guards.
The chief of the regime’s State Security Force announced that 6,500 people have been arrested since the war began. He noted that 567 of them were connected to the PMOI.
They are trying to hide their weak position and fear of collapse behind the noise of war. But they have no answer for a society that is ready to rise up, especially because the Resistance Units in many Iranian cities are fighting the Revolutionary Guards and preparing for the next uprising.
At the same time, the remnants of the Shah’s regime, which was overthrown by a popular revolution in 1979, are advocating for a return to the past dictatorship and the return of the Shah’s notorious secret service, SAVAK.
These actions undermine today’s anti-dictatorial movements. However, Iranian society will neither accept the status quo nor return to the past. Instead, it is moving toward establishing a democratic republic based on the separation of religion and state, autonomy for oppressed nationalities, and gender equality.
As the regime enters a point of no return, the National Council of Resistance of Iran, which is the democratic alternative to this regime, announced the provisional government based on the Ten-Point Plan of the Iranian Resistance.

Expel Regime’s Agents from Canada

Today in Iran, on one side, the ruling regime wants war, and on the other side, the remnants of the past dictatorship want the same. But the slogan of the provisional government is peace and freedom.
Canada took an important step by cutting its diplomatic ties. If other countries had done the same, the situation today would be different. However, this action can only have a positive effect on the Iranian people’s fight for freedom if it is followed by other steps.
These include ending the abuse of Canada’s territory by the regime’s agents, expelling them, and prosecuting the regime’s leaders for crimes against humanity and genocide.
Recognizing the Iranian people’s struggle to overthrow the regime and supporting the provisional government announced by the National Council of Resistance, is another crucial step.
This is what the regime fears more than anything. At the same time, it sends a message of solidarity and support to the people of Iran.
