Iran: Brutal Execution of PMOI Members Mohammad Taghavi and Akbar Daneshvarkar
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi: In fear of the uprising, the regime resorts to such crimes, but it cannot escape its inevitable overthrow by the people and the Resistance
At dawn today, Monday, March 30, 2026, heroic PMOI members Mohammad Taghavi and Akbar Daneshvarkar were hanged by the executioners of the mullahs’ regime in Ghezel Hesar Prison, joining the eternal convoy of martyrs.
Martyred PMOI member Mohammad Taghavi, 59, a political prisoner in the 1980s and 1990s, was previously arrested in 2020 and sentenced to three years in prison on charges of affiliation with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). Shortly after his release, he was arrested again in March 2024. He had spent a total of eight years in the clerical regime’s prisons. Martyred PMOI member Akbar Daneshvarkar, 60, a civil engineer, was arrested in January 2024.
They were subjected to brutal torture and the most severe pressure in Ward 209 of Evin Prison. In December 2024, they were sentenced to death on the charge of ‘Baghi’ (armed rebellion) for membership in the PMOI by the executioner judge Iman Afshari in Branch 26 of the sham Revolutionary Court in Tehran. This sentence was subsequently upheld by the regime’s Supreme Court.
The regime’s judiciary cited the charge against these two proud PMOI members as their presence ‘in riots, urban actions, and confrontation with security forces,’ adding: ‘Mohammad Taghavi, as a team leader, formed a group using other elements. With the intention of harming the country’s security, he participated in investigating and identifying sensitive locations and carrying out harassing operations against various centers and institutions of the country. He also arranged safe houses and accommodated other defendants of the case in these houses. Akbar Daneshvarkar and Mohammad Taghavi were sentenced to death on charges of assembly and collusion to commit crimes against the internal security of the country, committing effective harassing actions in support of the PMOI with the aim of overthrowing the system, and membership in the PMOI with the aim of disrupting the country’s security’ (Fars, the IRGC news agency, March 30).
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), said that the desperate clerical regime, in fear of the people’s uprising, vainly attempts to delay the explosion of the people’s anger for a short while by executing the bravest children of Iran. However, this only doubles the resolve of the rebellious youths and the fighters of the Liberation Army to overthrow the regime.
Praising these steadfast PMOI members who, through perseverance against torture, pressure, and threats, fulfilled their pledge to God and the people at the peak of honor, Mrs. Rajavi said the mullahs’ regime attempts to cover up its deep and unsolvable internal crises by exploiting foreign wars, but it cannot escape its inevitable overthrow by the people and the Resistance.
Mrs. Rajavi called on the United Nations, its member states, and all human rights defenders to categorically condemn this brutal crime and take immediate action to save the large number of PMOI and other political prisoners who are on death row. She emphasized that verbal condemnation is not enough; the time has come to make practical and effective decisions. The inaction of the international community only encourages this bloodthirsty regime to continue its crimes and executions.
