January 2026 uprising in Iran: voices of sacrifice and resistance
Maryam Rajavi: They live on—the martyrs of this month are the most alive among us
Today and in these days, the people of Iran commemorate each martyr as their righteous anger, rising once again in renewed resistance.
Every tear shed, every searing pain carried in the hearts of mothers and fathers whose children were slain in January, feeds a raging fire—one that will ultimately reduce this entire regime to ashes.
What long, torturous hours and days families endure, searching for their children among black body bags, calling their names, not knowing whether they stand on the first day of their child’s martyrdom or the seventh.
Truly, the martyrs of this month are the most alive among the living.
They are the brave souls who, in their final recorded messages, spoke in their own voices:
“We go for freedom.
If we do not return, do not mourn us.
Celebrate on the day freedom arrives.”
They declared that the freedom of Iran is greater than life itself—and that they must take to the streets.
And so, to you grieving yet unyielding mothers and fathers,
and to you, the awakened people of Iran, I say:
Your struggle today is the continuation of the very battle your children began with their lives.
They may be gone, but they have placed the banner of their uprising firmly in your hands.
Your thunderous cries of “Death to Khamenei” and “Death to the dictator,” raised over the graves of your children, deliver a clear, direct, and unmistakable message to Khamenei the tyrant:
there is no escape from overthrow.
You mothers who scatter flowers upon the bodies of your children,
you fathers who answer grief with defiant slogans,
and all of you who, even in mourning, sing the anthem of freedom—
Yes, you have conquered the hearts of Iran and the conscience of the world.
Know this: you are not alone.
Every heart beats with you.
Every free soul stands beside you and shares your grief.
Those who carried the wounded into homes and hospitals,
those who hurried from every corner to memorials for the martyrs of freedom,
those who rose in solidarity with families who lost their only child, their sole provider,
Yes—today, it is you who are the fighters.
It is you who are carrying this battle forward.
And tomorrow, the world will witness that from the very core of this steadfastness,
the light of freedom will rise.
May your heads be held high,
Your path be bright,
and the memory of your brave children remain forever alive and eternal.”
