President of the Italian delegation in the EPP Group met with Mrs. Rajavi

In his meeting with Mrs. Rajavi, Mr. Mario Mauro, President of the Italian delegation in the Group of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats),

expressed support for the Iranian people’s uprising and the rights of the residents of Camp Ashraf in the face of the regime’s suppressive measures. He underscored the need for the implementation of the April 24, 2009 European Parliament resolution on Ashraf.

Subsequent to the meeting, Mr. Mauro’s office issued a statement, which said,

“Mr. Mario Mauro, met this afternoon with Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran.

“Mrs. Rajavi extended her gratitude to Mr. Mauro for his decisive remarks following the July 28-29 assault on Camp Ashraf, which led to the freedom of 36 hostages who would have died if kept in captivity a day longer.

“Mrs. Rajavi also thanked Mr. Mauro for his persistent support for the establishment of democracy in Iran and underscored that the Iranian people will forever remember Mr. Mauro’s support amid the difficult situation they are enduring.

“Mrs. Rajavi asked Mr. Mauro to expedite efforts by the EU countries and affiliated institutions to enlist the commitment of the United Nations to protect Camp Ashraf.”
