Khamenei alarmed by public anger, international outrage – Regime’s top security officials deflect responsibility: “Infiltrators and opposition killed the people.”

The regime’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, extremely alarmed by the Iranian people’s angry reaction to his regime, and growing international outrage and condemnation of the crimes his regime committed during the November uprising in Iran, has desperately resorted to deflecting responsibility for the high death toll on “infiltrators and opposition groups.”

Ali Shamkhani, the secretary for the regime’s Supreme National Security Council, in remarks broadcast on the state radio-TV and published by the state-run news agency, IRNA, on December 12, ridiculously claimed, “Infiltrators carried out these acts.” He added, “more than 85 percent of those who lost their lives in the recent incidents in cities in Tehran Province did not participate in any of the protest gatherings and were killed under suspicious circumstances with firearms and other weapons not issued by the [security] forces. Thus, the opposition [groups’] project of piling on casualties in this region is certain.”

The same day, in remarks at Ferdowsi University in Mashhad, reported by IRNA, Mohammad Jafar Montazeri, the regime’s murderous prosecutor general asserted, “A number of those killed were shot with a particular type of bullet. At the ‘72 Martyrs’ Square in Qom, 84 hunting rifles, with a particular type of bullet, were discovered and seized. Some of the people were killed by the bullets fired from these weapons.”

The day before, Hassan Rouhani’s chief of staff, Mahmoud Va’ezi, tried to justify the massacre of defenseless protesters by the IRGC in Mahshahr, shamelessly claiming, “A few armed people were firing at the State Security Force and the people… In Mahshahr and Asslouyeh they had set up bunkers and carried weapons… Some of those killed were murdered by these people.”

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), emphasized that the attempts by Khamenei and his regime to escape the consequences, and the backlash over this crime against humanity are futile. These paranoid and very preposterous assertions do not fool anyone, not even a child. They only intensify public anger and outrage, particularly since the number of those killed exceeds 1,000, the names of over 450 of whom have been made public.

Mrs. Rajavi added that the United Nations Security Council must declare the November massacre, one of the most horrific crimes of the 21st century, as a crime against humanity so that the regime’s leaders are brought to justice. The formation of a fact-finding mission and visiting the prisoners is an urgent imperative, she added.
