Call for immediate sanctions against the Iranian regime

Following the EU Council of Ministers’ decision of enforcing oil sanctions against the mullahs’ regime, Maryam Rajavi said:Following the EU Council of Ministers’ decision of enforcing oil sanctions against the mullahs’ regime, Maryam Rajavi said:“The Iranian Resistance welcomes today’s decision of the Council of Ministers and calls for the urgent and immediate implementation of these sanctions. For over two decades, the Iranian Resistance has called for comprehensive oil and financial sanctions against the religious and terrorist dictatorship ruling Iran.”She added, “While the clerical regime is all out to obtain nuclear weapons, a five-month delay in putting these sanctions in full force provides a significant amount of time for this regime to implement its ominous plots. Comprehensive sanctions and their immediate implementation are an essential and indispensable component to stop the nuclear weapons project of the mullahs’ regime and must be completed as soon as possible. However, in conditions where the international community’s soft approach in the past years has brought this regime much closer to gaining a nuclear bomb, sanctions are not the ultimate answer to this regime’s projects.
The final solution is to change the mullahs’ regime; a regime that considers obtaining nuclear weapons as part of its strategy for survival and will never relinquish this objective. Therefore, sanctions are only effective if they are complemented with supporting the Iranian people’s struggle for regime change. The truth is that the policy of appeasement and engagement with the mullahs’ regime attempts to weaken and postpone the adopted sanctions, or reduce its seriousness by providing exceptions based on political and economic expediencies. The other side of the coin in this policy, is the US and international community’s reneging their commitments regarding the protection of Ashraf residents and insisting on continuing the illegitimate terror tag against the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran in the U.S. This designation has weakened the international community’s will to show determination against the central banker of terrorism.
