The mandate for a Special Rapporteur on human rights in Iran was first adopted in 1984, but in line with the policy of appeasement towards the religious fascism in Iran, it was not reinstated in 2002.Maryam Rajavi emphasized that the reappointment of a Special Rapporteur is an international acknowledgment to the fact that barbarism and brutality are inherent to the regime ruling Iran which lacks any affinity with human rights and its universal tenets. The era of ignoring human rights violations in Iran has come to an end.Maryam Rajavi expressed hope that with the designation of a Special Rapporteur, the true dimensions of human rights violations in Iran will come to the view of the international community; an issue that the clerical regime had averted through terror, suppression, and punishment of human rights activists. She emphasized that the Iranian Resistance is ready to fully assist the Special Rapporteur to obtain information on the state of human rights in Iran.Maryam Rajavi added that the time has come for the Iranian regime’s human rights dossier be referred to the United Nations Security Council and impose sanctions on authorities responsible for executions, massacres and human rights violations and be brought to justice before the international tribunals for crimes against humanity.
