Designating 13 Assassins of Dr. Kazem Rajavi by the State Department Is an Essential and Effective Step To Combat Terrorism

Designating 13 assassins of Dr. Kazem Rajavi by the State Department is an essential and effective step to combat terrorism. It must be complemented by the prosecution and punishments of the regime’s leaders.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), welcomed the designation by the U.S. Secretary of State of 13 assassins of Dr. Kazem Rajavi, the great martyr to the cause of human rights. She described it as an essential and effective step to combat terrorism and to safeguard the security of European countries. Mrs. Rajavi added that this designation must be complemented by the designation of the leaders of the clerical regime, including its supreme leader Ali Khamenei, Ali Fallahian, at the time the Intelligence Minister, Ali Akbar Velayati, Khamenei’s advisor and then-Foreign Minister, and Hassan Rouhani, at the time the Secretary for the Supreme National Security Council, as the masterminds of the Dr. Rajavi’s assassination in April 1990, near Geneva.

The designation, prosecution, and punishment of the assassins of Dr. Rajavi and other Iranian regime’s terrorists and leaders have been delayed by the European countries for many years, which has only emboldened the regime in shedding blood and engaging in terrorism in Europe, NCRI President-elect underscored.

On March 20, 2006, a Swiss investigating magistrate issued an arrest warrant for the then Iranian Intelligence Minister Ali Fallahian for his involvement in the assassination. The arrest warrant stated that Ali Fallahian reads, “Kazem Rajavi’s assassination had been carefully planned. The commandos first traveled to Switzerland in October 1989, then in late January and early February 1990 and finally from 10 to April 24 in the same year. The investigations revealed that 13 men were involved in preparing and perpetrating the murder. They were carrying service passports stamped “on mission.” All Iranian service passports were issued by order of the ministry under the leadership of Ali Fallahian and were taken away from the perpetrators at the same airport when they returned to Iran. All the service passports of the 13 individuals named above were issued in Karim Khan, a street in Tehran. The two buildings on this street are the headquarters of part of the Iranian regime’s intelligence service, VAVAK.”
