Maryam Rajavi: The mullahs’ regime will never abandon the nuclear bomb

Activation of the snapback mechanism and enforcement of UN Security Council resolutions is belated but urgent and necessary

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), said, the fruitless talks last week between the foreign ministers of the three European countries and the foreign minister of the Iranian regime, as well as the failed meeting of deputy foreign ministers on August 26 in Geneva, once again prove the undeniable truth that the mullahs’ regime is not prepared to abandon its project of building a nuclear bomb. This makes the activation of the snapback mechanism and the enforcement of the six UN Security Council resolutions on the regime’s nuclear projects all the more urgent and essential.
Mrs. Rajavi reminded that as we have repeatedly said before, “No to war and no to appeasement,” the real solution to the Iranian crisis is regime change by the people of Iran and their Resistance. The Iranian Resistance has long warned that appeasement makes war inevitable, a reality we have already witnessed. Without appeasement and concessions, this regime would never have come so close to obtaining the nuclear bomb. In that case, there would have been no war either.
It is worth recalling that on 20 November 2013, on the eve of the negotiations with the P5+1 in Geneva, Mrs. Rajavi said: “Any agreement of the international community with the clerical regime, without a complete halt to enrichment, stopping the production and installation of centrifuges, the total closure of the Arak heavy-water site, acceptance of the Additional Protocol, and free access for the IAEA to all sites and regime experts who have been kept away from inspectors for years, will only grant the regime more opportunities to achieve the nuclear bomb.”
On 24 November 2013, following the Geneva agreement, she said: “If the world powers had acted firmly, regardless of economic and political considerations, they could have dismantled the regime’s bomb-making project entirely in this very round of negotiations.” She warned: “Full implementation of UN Security Council resolutions—especially the complete halt of enrichment, acceptance of the Additional Protocol, and free access of IAEA inspectors to suspicious sites and facilities—is essential if the regime is to abandon the nuclear bomb… Any weakness, delay, or retreat by the international community will only allow Khamenei to again advance toward building the bomb through deception and fraud.”
On 14 July 2015, following the JCPOA (nuclear deal), Mrs. Rajavi stated: “If the P5+1 countries had acted firmly, the Iranian regime would have had no choice but complete retreat and permanent abandonment of its nuclear weapons project, specifically, giving up all enrichment and shutting down its bomb-making projects entirely… Even now, the world must firmly insist on the regime’s non-interference and removal from the entire region, and this necessity must be enshrined as a fundamental principle in any agreement.”
At the same time, Mrs. Rajavi also emphasized: “Another important point is that the cash flowing into the regime must be placed under strict UN control and used to meet the urgent needs of the Iranian people, especially the meager and unpaid wages of workers, teachers, and nurses, and for food and medicine for the masses. Otherwise, Khamenei will continue to funnel the money into the regime’s policy of exporting terrorism and fundamentalism to Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and Lebanon, while above all, filling the pockets of the Revolutionary Guards more than ever. It is the right of the Iranian people to know what they are actually receiving from an agreement that the regime’s president claimed even their bread, water, and environment depended on. In reality, any agreement that ignores the human rights of the Iranian people and does not underscore them will only encourage the regime’s continuous repression and executions, trample the rights of the Iranian people, and violate the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Charter of the United Nations.”
