UN General Assembly adopts 69th UN resolution condemning violations of human rights in Iran

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi:
• The dossier of the regime’s crimes must be referred to the UN Security Council to take deterrent measures. Regime leaders must be prosecuted.
• Regime leaders, especially Ali Khamenei, Ebrahim Raisi, Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje’i and Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf have all been involved in crimes against humanity and genocide since the 1980s.
• With a long record of massacres and crimes against humanity, the regime must be expelled from the UN and its agencies, its embassies must be shut down, and its agents expelled.
• In view of execution sentences against the prisoners of the uprising, the UN must act immediately. The international fact-finding mission must visit the prisons and speak with the prisoners as soon as possible.

Today, December 15, the United Nations General Assembly adopt the sixty-ninth United Nations resolution condemning human rights violations in Iran by 80 votes in favor and only 29 against. The efforts of the regime’s allies and other human rights violators to prevent the adoption of the resolution failed.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), said: Despite all its shortcomings, this resolution clearly shows that this regime egregiously violates almost all of the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and many other international laws and treaties.

She added: This regime has been constantly engaged in crimes against humanity and genocide for more than four decades. They include the mass execution of political prisoners in the 1980s, the massacre of the people of Kurdistan, the massacre of political prisoners in 1988, the massacre of protesters during the November 2019 uprising, the suppression of the current nationwide uprising that has left 700 deaths, including 70 children, and the criminal executions of the prisoners of the nationwide uprising (now in its fourth month). The current leaders of the regime, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, his President Ebrahim Raisi, the Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje’i and the Majlis (Parliament) Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, have been directly involved in these crimes since the 1980s. Among others, they have executed 44 prisoners in the first half of December in order to instill an atmosphere of terror and intimidation and prevent the continuation and expansion of the uprising.

Mrs. Rajavi reiterated that to prevent the cycle of crime and terror, the dossier of brutal violations of human rights by this regime must be referred to the United Nations Security Council for adoption of binding and deterrent measures. The regime leaders must be brought to justice.

The NCRI President-elect again welcomed the expulsion of the mullahs’ misogynist regime from the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) and noted that the regime, which is a stain on contemporary humanity, must be expelled from the United Nations and its other agencies and institutions. She emphasized that there is no justification for economic, political, and diplomatic relations with the regime. As such, its embassies must be shut down and the agents of its Ministry of Intelligence and other espionage and suppressive agencies must be expelled.

Referring to the death sentences and long-term prison terms by the regime’s Judiciary against the prisoners arrested during the uprising, Mrs. Rajavi, called for the immediate action by the United Nations to save their lives and emphasized that the international fact-finding mission, accompanied by representatives of the Iranian Resistance, must visit prisons and torture chambers in Iran as soon as possible and speak to the prisoners, especially those arrested during the recent nationwide uprising.
